Segment 1: Bear River to Star Bend

This segment of levee sits just below Star Bend, stretching from the Bear River setback levee to 3.8 miles south.

Improvements included cutoff walls, stability berms, relief wells and monitoring wells. Click here for more information.

Cutoff walls are built to create an underground barrier, providing resistance to flood waters.
Stability berms add weight to weaker areas, providing extra resistance to the force of flood waters
Relief wells intercept underseepage and help control the release of water
Monitoring wells are installed so levee operators can keep a close eye on water levels

Segment 1 work provides regional benefits, as it is also considered a part of the Marysville/Yuba City Project for flood protection.
